The Big Sick
The stand-up comedian Kumail Najniani (Silicon Valley) plays himself in this critically acclaimed romantic comedy, about a young man who is fighting his way up on the stand up scenes to try and reach the big break. At a show he meets Emily. He knows from the start that a girlfriend who’s not from Pakistan won’t be approved by his parents, and when they continue to meet, he is proved right. Jan-Olov Andersson writes in Aftonbladet that it’s an “enthralling mix of humor seriousness in this romance’s culture clash and other obstacles. I haven’t been this touched and amused by a romantic comedy in a very long time”.
