Steve McQueen's triple Oscar winning drama (nine nominations) based on the true story of a free black man kidnapped from New York and sold as a slave in 1850s Louisiana and his struggle to return to his family. Solomon Northup is well educated and a music talent. He lives with his wife and children in Saratoga, New York. One day he is approached by two men claiming to work for a circus and Solomon accepts to accompany their circus on violin for a short period. But after having a drink with the men, he wakes up dazed and bound and is confronted with the horrific truth: he has been transported to the South as a slave.
