The German Doctor
Argentine director Lucía Puenzo's thriller The German Doctor is based on her own novel Wakolda. The reality-based action revolves around Nazi physician Josef Mengele's experiment with children and pregnant women. The year is 1960 and the place, Patagonia, where Eva, Enzo and their three children open a guesthouse. Their first guest turns out to be a charismatic doctor. 12-year-old Lilith and pregnant mother Eva attract his interest. Therese Lindström in Upsala Nya Tidning writes that the director "succeeds in creating a truly unpleasant mood from the first moment of this well-made film".
