American dancer Susie Banion (Dakota Johnson) moves to Berlin to attend the renowned Ballet School Markos Academy. She quickly becomes Madame Blanc's (Tilda Swinton) favorite student. But girls mysteriously disappear from the academy and Susie realizes that the school is governed by a cult of witches led by the evil Mater Suspiriorum. Psychiatrist Jozef Klemperer, who had a patient from the school disappear, starts to investigate what is going on but does not realize what dangerous forces he is dealing with.
