In 1900, Emil lives on the farm Katthult, in the parish of Lönneberga in Småland with his dad, his mom, his sister Ida and the servants. Emil is an enterprising young man, causing more shenanigans than there are days in the year, including whe he lifts Ida up on the flagpole, stucks his head in the soup tureen, pours batter over his father Anton and much more. Often he sits in the carpenter shop and ponders on his mischiefs. But in the meanwhile, he carves a splendid collection of wood figures. In Alfred, Emil finds his best supporter and most loyal friend.
