Based on the Oscar Nominated script of the writer Hanif Kureishi, Stephen Frear's breakthrough film is a portrayal of race relations and homosexuality in the 80's London. The young ambitious pakistani Omar takes over his uncle's launderette in London. He runs it with his old school friend Johnny, who needs money. Soon, the two develop a love relation and together they struggle against prejudice from both the Pakistani and English society.
