Over 16Contains violenceContians anxiety 134 minutes 1991 7.2

During the end of the 19th century, China was threatened by colonial powers already having taken hold in Hong Kong and Macao, and kungfu master Wong Fei-Hung was forced to fight for his people against the invaders. At the same time, he is asked to protect Siu-Kwan, the daughter of a close friend of the family, who has recently returned from a longer stay in the West. The two falls in love, but in the conservative Chinese society of the time, their love is taboo. Once upon a time in China is considered one of the great classics from the era of Hong Kong cinema and was awarded several prizes at various film festivals in Hong Kong 1991-1992. Jet Li came to play the folk hero Wong Fei-Hung (based on a historical person) in two more films.
