Johnnie has two great loves in life - girlfriend Annabelle Lee and the train "The General". When the American Civil War breaks out, Annabelle thinks he should enlist, but gets rejected as they consider him more valuable as an engineer than a soldier. When he tells Annabelle this she gets upset and thinks he is lying because he is too cowardly to fight. Soon, however, he gets his chance to show his worth when spies from the enemy side steal his beloved train while Annabelle is on board. The General is considered by many to be the best of Buster Keaton's films and on IMDB it is ranked in the top 200.
