We meet the three steelworkers and friends Mike (Robert De Niro), Nick (Christopher Walken) and Steven (John Savage) before, during and after their war service in Vietnam. In Vietnam, the three are captured by Vietcong, taken and forced together with other prisoners to play Russian roulette while their guards bet on the outcome. In the end, they manage to escape, but their lives will never be the same. According to Bonniers stora filmguide "this delicate, painful and evocative film is very emotional." The film was awarded five Oscars, for example. Best Picture.
