The six times Oscar nominated Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson is based on a true story. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Desmond T. Ross took on the appointment of a medical officer in the US Army. As a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Doss refused to carry weapons. He participated in the Battle of Okinawa where he in the battles of Hacksaw ridge saved the lives of at least 75 soldiers. For this reason, Ross became the first and only conscientious objector who received the Congress's medal of honor after the war. At its premiere in Venice, the film received standing ovations for ten minutes and in GP, Tobias Holmgren rates it 5 out of 5 since it is "an excellent movie".
